Hello Strong Start Families
I hope you all had a safe and healthy summer and enjoyed lots of fun outside in the sun. My family and I had a wonderful summer together, spending lots of time at the beach and creating so many great memories together. We enjoyed watching many sunsets and the above picture was one of my favourites. It was so wonderful to come back to Maywood a few weeks ago to welcome all our new Kindergarten children to Kindergarten. I have spent the last little while in the Kindergarten classrooms and it has been great to be back at the school! Seeing the excitement in all the children makes me so happy. I miss all of you and all of your children and I truly hope we get to be back together soon. But in the meantime I will continue with updating the blog and sending out emails. Also if you would like to get in touch with me anytime please email me at lisa.parr@burnabyschools.ca I know the question on everyone’s mind is WHEN will Strong Start be open in person again??? Unfortunately currently we don’t have an answer to that, but please see the latest message from the school board below, and as soon as we have more information we will definitely let you know…
In September 2020, Burnaby StrongStart BC programs will continue to engage in outreach to families via emails, phone calls, and offering StrongStart services online.
There is currently no in-person StrongStart BC programs in Burnaby Schools.
We are looking into a variety of options that will enable us to offer in-person StrongStart BC programs. Programs will be at reduced capacity that are consistent with Stage 2 of the K-12 Education Restart Plan. “Reduced capacity” means that we will limit the number of families attending in order to maintain safe physical distancing. We will also reduce the number of hours per day and/or days per week of StrongStart BC operations to accommodate cleaning and disinfecting protocols.

It is hard to believe that our year together at Strong Start has come to an end! I am left with so many feelings. I am sad that our time together was cut short and that I missed spending the last few months with all of you and especially the children graduating Strong Start. I am also sad that we never got to have our end of the year hugs and goodbyes. But I am so grateful for all the wonderful times we shared together this year and that we stayed safe and healthy!!! I feel happy when I think of all the joy you and your children brought me this year!! I wish my graduating Strong Start children a wonderful, fun, and exciting year in Kindergarten. I know you will all make so many new friends and have a great time. And to our Strong Start family, stay healthy and safe and have a wonderful summer making memories with your families. I can’t wait to play with you all again soon!! Check the Burnaby School Board website for updates regarding the re-opening of Strong Start in the fall. When we said our goodbyes and had our last hugs and smiles before Spring Break, I would have never guessed that so much would have changed in such a short amount of time. I want to tell you that I miss all of your children and I miss you too! I miss our great conversations and time together, our smiles, laughs and hugs. I also miss watching your children explore, learn, grow and have fun. I think about you all often and I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. Although I wish we could all be together at Strong Start, right now we have to do what is best for our health and that is to stay home and stay safe. The greatest gift that Strong Start gives me is watching the happiness it brings to everyone. My hope is that this blog brings you some of the happiness that we share at Strong Start and also provides you with some new ideas and fun things to do with your family. Remember we are all in this together and I know that one day we will be back together!
