The Federal Election
On Monday October 19, Canadians all over the country will be going to the polls to vote for their federal government. As a citizen of this country, you have the right to vote as soon as you turn 18. Unfortunately, there are many people who don’t exercise their democratic right and do not cast a ballot. The good news is that record numbers of Canadians are going to the advanced polls and voting. This is a good sign for voter turnout on Monday. It is said that many young people do not bother voting. I wonder why this is so? What are you thoughts? Do you think it is important to vote? Why or why not?

I think we should vote as students, because we could decide who would make a good community in the future for us.
Yes, I agree Stephanie that everyone should have a say in what happens in their community, province and country. By voting, you make your opinion count!
Do you know who won the election? I think it was the Red Party. But I also think it’s important for young people to vote, because then there may be a chance of the party you’re rooting for to win, even if the opposing team is close. Plus, everything gets so exiting, I bet even little kids would want to vote!
The red party is also known as the Liberal party and is led by Justin Trudeau. He is now the prime minister of Canada! Did you know that his dad, Pierre Trudeau, was also the prime minister of Canada from 1986-1979 and then again from 1980-1984? It is quite astounding because this is the first time in Canada that a father and his son are both prime ministers!
