Tile Project

Tile Project

It has been an exciting week preparing the ceiling tiles in our classroom for painting next week. I have enjoyed seeing all of your interpretations of Social Responsibility in your doodle books and group sketches. It will definitely be difficult to narrow it down to only five designs! The artist who will be helping us paint the tiles is named Joey Mallett. She has done some pretty amazing work in Vancouver. You may have even seen some of her many murals on some buildings around town. If you would like to find out more about this artist, click here.

With roughly seven billion people on this earth, all of us have some sort of responsibility to each other and our planet. Social responsibility reminds me of mindfulness for other people in our immediate communities and the world. It also makes me think about our HACE topic of responsible and respectful online behaviour. Helping your friends in class, picking up litter on the school grounds, and donating time and money to worthy causes are all good examples of being socially responsible. I have seen so many of you doing kind and thoughtful acts towards others; you have filled many buckets and in doing so, you have also had your bucket filled. Maybe in the future, you could even be a Malala or a Nelson Mandela!

What are your thoughts on social responsibility?  What would happen if we weren’t mindful of others and the environment?  Would we be happier or not?

  1. I am very excited for our art tile project !I think if we are mindful and social responsible we can help this world be a safer and healthy place!

  2. I really liked the Tile Project as well because it is my first time doing it and we haven’t started but it sounds like fun. My goal for me when I grow up I being an artist because when I grew up the first thing I did when I learned how to write was drawing. I always draw different things that I like such as Minecraft, animals, sometimes even people. Me and my mom sometimes draw together but not all the time because she has to work. I cant remember the last time we did an art project like this

  3. I think that everyone has a part in social responsibility by donating ,sharing ,not littering ,being respectful and much more. If we were not mindful to others and the environment it would not be a nice place to live in. We would not be happy at all . I am also really excited for the tile project. Is there going to be tiles painted in the music room ?

  4. If we were not mindful to the environment there would not be a clean place to live. there would be garbage every where. we are lucky that most people don’t litter.

  5. If there were no nice people to play with, the world would be a difficult and heartbreaking place to live. I suggest that we all be safe and mindful with one another and the world would be a happier place to be.

  6. My thought of social responsibility is very important, one wrong move and you make a big hate for someone like for example ( cyber bulling and bullying are one kind ) and if we aren’t mindful, w e will spread hated everywhere at earth

  7. I think it is going to be very hard for you to pick only 5 pictures for the tiles because they are going to stay on the roof for years. Have you choose the 5 pictures yet?I think the topics are perfect for our school.

  8. I can’t wait for the tile project because it’s going to make our school more colourful and fun. I think social responsibility is about respecting each others ideas. If we weren’t mindful we would be living in a boring and hateful community. We would not be happy if we are not mindful.

  9. if know one was mindful every one would litter and pollute the earth and endanger species and then every thing would be a disaster so I think being mindful would be a good thing to do

  10. If we weren’t mindful to others and to the environment, then our earth wouldn’t be caring about the earth or other people. When we’re not thinking about others some people would be hurt. My thoughts on social responsibility is that it’s very important because we have to keep the earth clean and spotless.

  11. I’m so excited!!!! I can’t wait to paint the tiles next week. My tile has three layers of people holding hands in a circle. It represents self, friends and family, and the larger community. In HACE we learned about cyber-bullying

  12. to be honest I enjoyed the music and how every thing in the video is fast forwarded. Sadly I could not watch a video because the video lagged too much.

  13. I think that social responsibility is huge because if you don’t take responsibility in many different things such as: social networks, the environment, natural resources, and your community, someone is going to get hurt emotionally and/or physically. Another thing is that if you join a committee or a team, it is your responsibility to not let others down. Sometimes, when I hear about the Taliban and other organizations to stop girls and women from their rights, I wonder why kids such as Malala Yousafzai stand up to them. I mean, what would happen if she didn’t stand up? Would the Taliban continue with their terrifying work? I think that she and the other girls who stands beside her are very courageous. If people aren’t taking care of our environment, what would happen to our poor Earth? We only have one Earth. Whenever someone gets cyber bullied is because they didn’t take responsibility for their actions. Imagine if everyone didn’t take responsibility. What would happen then? Social responsibility is a huge part of our lives.

  14. I’m soooo excited to be painting the tiles next week. This will be a new experience for me, and probably the rest of you as well. I’m really curious what the ceiling will look like after we do the painting.

  15. I am looking forward to make the tile project! If we were not mindful to others and the environment people will always be in a bad mood and our earth will be dirty
