We had an exciting science workshop where we got to make oobleck! Before creating the oobleck, we learned about the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We also explored the difference between physical and chemical changes. A physical change happens when something changes shape or form but stays the same material. For example, when ice melts into water, it’s still water, just in a different form. A chemical change occurs when substances combine to create something new, like when baking a cake. The ingredients transform into a completely new treat!

Next, we made our oobleck using cornstarch, water, and food colouring. We observed that oobleck acts like both a solid and a liquid. It feels solid when we apply force, like punching it, but flows like a liquid when left alone. The experiment was so much fun, and everyone loved seeing science in action!

A big thank you to SCWIST (Science for Canadian Women in Science and Technology) for hosting this fantastic workshop!
