Happy New Year

We are happy to be back in the swing of things at school. Our first week back included sharing winter break highlights, writing personal goals for 2026, and exploring new topics and curricular activities. It’s great to see the students reconnecting and interacting with each other again.

In Remembrance

In Social Studies, the students learned about the meaning, history and symbols associated with Remembrance Day. They demonstrated their learning by creating illustrations which was compiled into a short video presentation for our school assembly. You can watch the video on MS Teams.

So Much To Celebrate

During our first month together as a class, we got to know one another by learning new names and personal interests, sharing memorable experiences, exploring new curricular activities, connecting with our buddy class, taking part in the Terry Fox Run and learning the meaning behind Orange Shirt Day. We already have so much to celebrate!

Grouse Mountain Field Trip

Our class had a wonderful experience on our field trip to Grouse Mountain. For some students, it was their first time visiting this popular destination. Led by an education guide, we participated in activities that explored animal adaptations and enjoyed learning through Indigenous storytelling and traditional dance. Other photos are posted on Class Teams.

Cardinals

Through our research, we discovered that cardinals do not travel to warmer locations during the winter months. As students explored the topic of cardinals, they expressed curiosity and asked many questions about these striking red-feathered birds. Some of their inquiries included, “Why are cardinals called winter birds?”, “Why do they stay in colder regions instead of migrating to warmer areas?” and “Are there cardinals in Canada?”

In addition to learning the scientific fact that cardinals can retain thermal energy, the class also practiced paragraph writing on the subject. Students further engaged in a directed drawing activity, following techniques to create a vibrant, pastel-colored image of a cardinal.
