Valuing Our Family & Cultural Identity
Students were introduced to stories and discussions to build their understanding of Orange Shirt Day. In the story, Shi-shi-etko by Nicola I. Campbell, we learned about a young girl counting the number of sleeps before going to a residential school and her family members reminding her to hold onto memories of their cultural way of life. In the story, Remember Who You Are by Leona & Gabrielle Prince, students were encouraged to remember and celebrate traditions important to their culture. At our Orange Shirt Day Assembly, each student shared a personal message reflecting their family and cultural identity.
