The full moon was the perfect scary backdrop for Halloween night this year, as a rare blue moon shone in the night sky.  There was a full moon on October 1st and October 31, 2020, and because October had two full moons, the second full moon is called a blue moon… We won’t see another blue moon on Halloween night until 2039.

Halloween festivities looked a bit different this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but we managed to celebrate the occasion at school with some fun activities – spider races, spider ring toss, ghost builders and roll, count and cover.

Thank you Ms. Chow for the picture.

Our Apple Tree

We have been learning about how seasonal changes affect apples trees.

One of our favourite books is Our Apple Tree by Gorel Kristina Naslund.  This book describes the life cycle of the apple tree – from spring, when the apple tree blossoms, through summer, when the fruit grows, to fall, when the apples are ripe and ready to pick, and finally to winter, when the apple trees rests. We also learned about the animals that visit the apple tree – from insects that pollinate the flowers to deer that eat the fallen fruit.  We tried some of the many gifts that are provided by the apple tree, like crunchy apples, apple sauce and apple juice. Thank you apple tree!

Listen to your child describe the seasons of the apple tree in his/her blogfolio.

Apple Art

We are artists, and as artists, we can explore different elements, materials and techniques, and create works of art inspired by nature.  Here are our representations of apples using yarn, marbles and paint, and torn paper.
