Don’t cry because it’s over, Smile because it happened. – Dr. Seuss

As most of you now know, I will not be returning to Lochdale school in September.  I have really enjoyed my time here and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful families over the years.  Lochdale is a great community and I will miss it.

Flying insects are pests.  Right?  Division 10 learned that flying insects, like honeybees and butterflies, love flowers! Why?  Flowers are filled with a sweet juice called nectar.  When the insects visit flowers, they get covered in a sticky dust called pollen.  As they fly to other flowers, some pollen drops off.  The causes new flowers to grow.  Some flowers turn into the fruits and vegetables that we eat.  Wow!  Flying insects are very helpful.  Here we are doing an experiment to show how pollination works.[metaslider id=2640]

Did you know that one honeybee can pollinate 10,000 flowers!

Division 10 are learning about insects.  We know that insects have three body parts; a head, a thorax and an abdomen.  We also know that insects have six legs and antennae.  Did you know that antennae are an insect’s main sense organ.  They are used for feeling and smelling, and sometimes for tasting and hearing too.  We used candy to build our own bugs. We made sure we had all the right parts.[metaslider id=2627]
