Numeracy is the ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts, processes and skills to solve problems in a variety of contexts.” – BC’s New Curriculum.

The children of Division 8 have been working on developing their numeracy skills. In order to do so, they need lots of opportunities to visualise and explore mathematical concepts.  The best way to develop mathematical understanding is through play, games and problem solving activities.  The children can then apply the strategies that they have learned in order to solve mathematical problems in a fun, real and challenging way.

Dinosaurs lived on earth for millions and millions of years.  Then they vanished completely.  What happened?  Why did they all die?  No one really knows for sure.

Everything that we do know about dinosaurs we know from the fossils that they left behind.  Fossil teeth tell us what a dinosaur ate.  Fossil leg bones tell us us how a dinosaur might have walked.  Footprint fossils help us guess how much a dinosaur weighed or if dinosaurs travelled alone or in a herd.

Fossils can only give us so much information.  We have to use our imaginations to picture how these fascinating creatures really looked, how they lived, and how they died.

“I will not eat them in a house, I will not eat them with a mouse, I will not eat them in a box, I will not eat them with a fox, I will not eat them here of there, I will not eat them anywhere, I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am”. – Dr. Seuss, Green Eggs and Ham
