Review counting backward from 10 using fingers.

Lesson 7:

I can subtract with objects to 10. ( I can use small objects to help me subtract and find the answer).

You can use a ten-frame and counters to solve subtraction equations within ten.

Can you tell your grown-up the number sentence for this picture? Remember: the big number comes first.

You can also use a number line.  Start on the first number and hop backwards.

Can you tell your grown-up the number sentence for each picture? Remember: Put your finger on the first number and count the second number of hops back.

Today we are going to learn about the Setting of a story.  Listen to this video to see if you can figure out what “setting” means by the examples.

What did you learn about setting?

Setting:  The time and place of a story.

  • The setting answers the the questions when and where.
  • The time of a story may be the future or the past,  the daytime or night, the summer or winter.
  • The place of a story could be a school or a jungle, a city or a desert.
  • We can use describing words to tell about the story like sunny, cold, busy or spooky.

What settings have you seen in stories before?  Think about the Three Little Pigs.

Now you can talk about a story’s characters and setting.

You also need to be able to retell the events (the things that happen) of a story in the order in which they occurred; such as beginning, middle, end or first, then last.  This is called story structure.

Listen to Rosie Revere Engineer again.   Can you remember the order that the events take place in this story?
