Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help! That’s why each year on April 22, more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day to protect the planet from things like pollution. By taking part in activities like picking up litter and planting trees, we’re making our world a happier, healthier place to live.
Listen to the book The Earth and I by Frank Asch – read by the author. This is a story about a friendship that a child has with the earth. They play together. They listen to each other. They care about each other. They were both happy until something happened to make the earth sad.
What made the earth sad? How did the child help his friend, the earth, to be happy again?
You can protect the planet and be a friend to the earth!
Here are some ways that you can help.
Turn off lights when you leave the room. During the day, open your curtains and enjoy natural light.
Use a reusable water bottle, and stop buying plastic disposable bottles.
When you can, walk or ride your bike and get some exercise! Try to keep a physical distance of two metres from other people.
Reuse scrap paper for writing notes or creating crafts.
Recycle cans, bottles, paper, books, and even toys.
Turn off the water when you’re brushing your teeth.
Put your computer to “sleep” instead of leaving it on with the screensaver running.
Use reusable food containers for your lunch.
Borrow a book from the library — it’s a great way to reduce waste.
Stop using disposable bags, use reusable bags.
Ask your grown up to help you try these things at home.
Complete the writing activity in the protected post.
