Readers must learn to use many strategies in order to become independent readers.  Here are the strategies we can use to figure out unknown words: 

Eagle Eye: Look at the Pictures

Lips the Fish:  Say the first sound

Stretchy Snake: Stretch it out

You can help your child at home by reminding him/her to use these strategies when he/she gets stuck on a word!
