Let It Snow!

Division 8 has been learning about seasonal changes.  We know that winter has finally arrived.  As scientists, we were very excited when it began to snow.  It may look like we are playing, but we are really experiencing and interpreting the local environment through our senses.

Ocean Animals

Division 8 are scientists.  We have been inquiring about what enables living things to survive in their environment.  In particular, we have been investigating animals that live in the ocean.  We have also been working on using graphs to organise information.  We decided to compare the features of sharks and whales on a Venn Diagram.  This kind of graph lets see how sharks and whales are different and how they are the same.

Listen to what your child has to say in her/his Blogfolio.

Children are naturally curious about the world around them.  When they ask questions and investigate what they are wondering about, they are engaged in meaningful learning.

The children were given trays of different sea shells as a provocation.  They began to ask questions about the sea shells; “What creatures live inside a shell?  Do sea shells grow?  Can you really hear the ocean in a sea shell?”  We talked about where we could find the answers to their questions and we did some research.
