Orange Shirt Day

HI Everyone!

Wednesday September 30th was Orange Shirt Day! We learned about the history of Orange Shirt Day. We listened to Phyllis Webstad’s story about being a residential school survivor. We read books about residential schools such as When We Were Alone by David Robertson and Amik Loves School by Katherena Vermette. We had deep meaningful conversations.

After we did a project where we wrote kind words to the residential school survivors and brainstormed how school should make us feel (loved, safe, happy, etc.). Here is our bulletin board with our work. We talked about how Every Child Matters and we all belong in our safe and caring classroom.

Nature Art!

Since it is supposed to rain all week, we decided to take advantage of the sunshine outside. We collected some natural objects and turned them into art. Take a look at our nature people! We sure had a ton of fun making art!

There are a few announcements for this week!

Welcoming conversations start on Wednesday September 23rd (tomorrow) and continue on Thursday September 24th. Since we have welcoming conversations, this means that Thursday and Friday are going to be early dismissal days. Our class, division 15, dismisses at 2:10pm on Thursday and Friday.

I look forward to chatting with everyone on Zoom for the welcoming conversations!

If you don’t remember or know your time, send me an email and I will happily confirm your time. 🙂

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone!

It is so lovely seeing all the new faces in the classroom. I look forward to learning more about your child in the next few weeks. So far we have been together for a week and I am so impressed with the students in Division 15. They are so kind and helpful. I can see that they are happy to be back in school and are eager to learn! It makes my heart smile.

I am new to blogs so please bear with me as I learn this new communication platform – I am trying my best!

Please look here for updates regarding the school year and classroom announcements/notices.

Kindly,

Ms. Daychief
