What a week we’ve had in Division 7!
We’ve been working on something very special — a Reader’s Theatre performance based on the OUTSTANDING script written by our amazing classmate, Avnika! The story was written to teach the importance of online safety,
based on everything we learned in Digital Literacy earlier this year. Three groups are preparing their performances, and we’re planning to share them in just a few weeks. If they go well, we hope to perform them for the other Grade 4/5 classes too. Thank you, Avnika, for creating such a fun and meaningful story for us!
On the same topic of Reader’s Theater, we continued to practice our C’est L’Ete script during French… AND we were treated to C’est Moi power point presentations as well! Hanna started us off as our first presentation and certainly set the bar very high!
You all did a great job creating a slide show using French text, images to match, and even animations and transitions. 
All of you did a great job with the French oral component trying your best to pronounce the various descriptions of yourself. This was a big project and for some of you it was a first time creating a power point. Be proud of yourselves! Lots of growth and learning was demonstrated through this! Yahoo!
In math, we explored comparing and ordering fractions. We learned how to 
figure out which fractions are larger or smaller and how to line them up from least to greatest. We used fraction bars and number lines to help us visualize, and we talked about things like equivalent fractions too — fractions that might look different but are actually the same amount. For example, we saw that 1/2 is greater than 1/4, and 3/4 is more than 2/3. It was tricky at first, but pictures really helped!
What time is it Mr. Wolf? Do you remember that game from when you were a younger kid? Learning how to tell time is an important skill and we started that this week.
Some of you are practicing how to read an analog clock and have a booklet to work through. The rest of you continued using the IXL Learning program and started the lessons on TIME. Many of you are still working through the money lessons, which you will continue to work on. By June 20th, your aim should be to have completed both units 0r a good chunk of both.
This week we also enjoyed some buddy time!
We played card games, caught up with our little buddies, and shared some fun, relaxed moments together. It’s always so nice to spend time with our younger friends and build those special connections.
Our novel study continues to bring us exciting and emotional moments. Melody is finally using her Medi-talker to communicate with her classmates. There have been some highs and lows for her as she
adjusts to this new way of sharing her thoughts, and we’ve really been feeling those moments right along with her. We learned new vocabulary this week, like “whiz kid” (someone who’s super smart) and “exasperated” (when you’re really frustrated or annoyed). We also noticed how often the author uses idioms —
phrases that don’t mean exactly what the words say — like “mountains of words” and “ he wears sharp ties.” They make the story even more fun and interesting to read. Melody’s next adventure is trying out for the Whiz Kid team. Will she make it? We’re excited to find out what happens next!
We also had a big chunk of class time — three full hours! — to work on our Career Brochures and Sustainability Comics. Your work looks incredible so far! The comic characters are so creative, and your brochures are filled with so much great information that they’re making me wonder if I should switch careers! Just a reminder: both projects are due Monday, June 9th. You’ll still have two more hours of class time next week to finish them up.
You can definitely work on them at home if you like, just make sure you have everything you need here on Tuesday and Wednesday next week so you can use your class time wisely!
We’re also in the FINAL stretch to get our African country tri-fold boards completed. Remember the deadline for completion is Friday, June 6th and our “Trip Around the World” SHOWCASE is the following week: Thursday, June 12th.

It was Isaac’s last day with us on Friday. He and his family are starting their summer a month early with an extended trip to China! Although we’ll miss him these next few weeks at school, we wish Isaac and his family a wonderful time away! See you again in September, Isaac!
IMPORTANT REMINDER: There is a Professional Day on Monday. Some of you are coming to school to participate in a Babysitting Workshop. The rest of you will be enjoying the day off. No matter what you are doing on Monday, please do not forget, we are going swimming next week on Tuesday the 3rd and Friday the 6th! Please remember:
- Appropriate swimwear
- A towel
- Swim goggles
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- An extra snack
- bring you BeActive Pass
- All sessions will take place in the afternoon. We will be walking to and from the pool, leaving school at 12:00 PM and returning by 3:00 PM.
