What a fantastic week we had together! Mrs. Davis stepped in on Tuesday and Wednesday as Mrs. Gil was away. As we near the end of this school year, time is flying by SO FAST, that having the gift of EXTRA time is always welcome! We sure took advantage of those bonus days as we really dove into the projects we have on the go! Thanks Division 7 for being so focused and productive!
We started our week with some EARTH DAY activities. Many of you dressed in your earth tones ( blue, brown, green) in support of our school spirit day.
We completed a “fill in the blank” passage describing Earth Day and then we worked on an individual poster to put up on our growth board. Those look great! We also spent a couple of days cleaning up our school yard and community park by picking up litter. Thanks Division 7!!
We did a LOT of work on our projects this week. We had the computers several times: twice to work on our French “C’est Moi” projects and twice to work on our African country research! Many of you are really enjoying creating a power point slide show about yourself– in French!
Those of you who chose to pivot and create a “C’est Moi booklet instead also are using the computers for translation and collecting clipart images to include in your book.
Our African country research is almost complete. If you are still looking up information, you will need to try to do some of that at home as well– we will not be as fortunate to have the computers as often next week.
Besides, we need to start moving on to the next phase: comparing notes and writing what we learned into paragraphs. Some of you are already on that step! Well done!
In Math, we received our area and perimeter quiz back — and all of you have shown that you understand those concepts. Yay! We followed that up with a “what do you know about money and time” check in. Counting money amounts seems to be quite solid… but reading an analog clock is a bit challenging for some of us.
Time and Money… there’s more to it than just reading a clock or counting money… we’ll keep exploring over the next several weeks.
BATTER UP! California Kick has taken our class by STORM!! You are so excited about this game and this week we got several chances to play it! We have split into 2 very fair teams and the games have been so fun! So far we are just enjoying the game and haven’t kept score. We did add a rule about “over-throws”– that you can only advance one base on an overthrow.
It’s been great to see several home-runs and how you encourage each other when it’s time to kick or when you are out-field. We may be ready to challenge another class soon! What do you think?
Your Blog Response question is this:
How much money is:
A) 2 toonies, 3 loonies, 4 quarters, a dime, and 2 nickles?
B) How else can you make that amount of money using the LEAST amount of cash?
Speaking of money… please bring a $1.00 to school next week to help pay for the Social Studies presentation tri-fold poster. Thank you!
Have a wonderful LONG weekend Division 7! See you on Tuesday!
Mrs. Davis & Mrs. Gil
Wow, what an exciting week we’ve had! Whether it was solving algebra equations or chatting about the different levels of education in Canada, your energy and curiosity were off the charts! Maybe it’s the sunshine giving you all that extra spark ☀️—whatever it is, keep it up because it’s making our classroom a fantastic place to learn and grow!
We also started a vocabulary book that helps us dive deeper into the new words we find in each chapter. You’ve all been amazing word detectives—solving meanings, breaking down tricky words, and building your vocabulary! 🔍📘
Our final task connected to this project was a quiz! The petting zoo project started out as a math project focusing on area and perimeter… which is what the quiz tested. Most of you showed solid understanding of these concepts and did very well on the assessment check in! Yay!!
Over the weekend, you have the option to continue researching, but you can take a break too. Next week Mrs. Davis is covering Mrs. Gil’s days so we will have a few more opportunities to complete our research then.
What levels of education or certification do the people in your household have? Ask them and tell us what you found out.
Enjoy your long weekend everyone! Happy Easter!
PS: Earth Day is on Tuesday and it’s also EARTH WEAR Spirit Day! Come dressed in Earth colors (blue, green, brown) and show your school spirit!
This week, we waved goodbye to long division and said hello to the exciting world of algebra! Algebra is like solving puzzles where everything is about equality. We learned that knowing our basic facts, like those we practice in Xtra Math, makes solving algebra problems much easier. Algebra involves understanding problem-solving and using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Keep practicing those basic facts, and you’ll be an algebra whiz in no time!
and it’s been quite intense! We’ve met the main character, Melody, who has cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk. The story is told from inside Melody’s mind, and we are beginning to see how intelligent she is and how much she understands about the world around her, even though others can’t tell.
Once everyone had the information, you were able to get started on one of the topics you chose to research. It was great to see the excitement as you began looking up specific areas about your country. Have you been surprised by anything yet? You have taken your note taking package home for the weekend. Please try to get at least the first two pages of your note-taking package finished by Thursday. We have the library computers booked on Thursday afternoon to continue our research.
On Monday, we took part in an engaging in-class workshop as part of the Climate Cool Challenge currently running in British Columbia. The workshop helped us deepen our understanding of climate change and the importance of taking action to protect our planet.
Activity 1.1 in the climate cool challenge involves some research and thinking about how to be “Car Smart”. Answer the questions directly into the word document you will find attached to this weeks Blog Response in our TEAM.
We assigned new jobs and created our calendars for the month. Everyone did a great job picking their roles and filling out the calendar. Keep an eye on your responsibilities and let’s make sure everything runs smoothly.
There are two after-school zone meets at Burnaby North and a final, full-day meet on the last Wednesday of the month. It’s a short but exciting season, and we are so proud of all of you who decided to give track a try.

The importance of knowing those facts by heart cannot be emphasized enough. Math only gets more complex, and multiplication is a skill used in many different areas of math. Knowing the facts will definitely make your life easier. Maybe this should be a goal for some of you this month! Think about it and ask your family to help you if they can!
We used the science content to work on our reading comprehension skill focus for the week, which was to find the author’s claim/message and find the evidence that supports it. Some of you are really getting the hang of it, while others still find it challenging.
This will be a lot of fun as we learn how to describe how we look, our family, and other things about ourselves through a power point presentation. On Friday we learned how to describe our hair, our eyes, and some accessories we wear on our head.
t to show you how you are growing and changing. We are so happy with the growth you have all shown in so many areas, and we are very excited to see you continue to flourish during this last term of the school year.
What 3 things do you like about Springtime? Why?
