Priorities

We will continue practicing our questioning and inferring skills by observing the picture below. Please follow the prompts beneath the picture to help you make meaning of the picture. Make a comment on this blog post with your questions and inferences. I encourage you to comment on each other’s posts. Remember to provide evidence on your thoughts.
What questions do you have? (I wonder…)
What is going on in this picture? (I think… or Maybe…)
What do you see that makes you say that? (I think…. because…)
What more can you find?
Last week’s photo explained:
This week’s image comes from the Jun. 11, 2010 “Pictures of the Day: South Africa and Elsewhere” on the New York Times Lens blog. The original caption reads:
Costa Rica’s education minister, Leonardo Garnier, authorized all schools across the country to have a television in their classrooms to watch the World Cup matches. A class in San José watched Mexico and South Africa play.
Juan Carlos Ulate is the photographer.
b.) Literacy*
Please refer to Monday’s blog post for instructions on the father’s day poem we are working on. We have become aware that finding 6 triple-scoop words might be overdoing it! Please aim for a minimum of 2 triple-scoop words per line.
Once you have completed the draft, publish a good copy of the poem. You might type this up on the computer (and print) or hand write it with your best printing.
Please refer to this template for your poem:
I’m Talking Dad Poetry Plan – Int. or this link if the document does not open for you.
c.) Reflection*
As you know, we usually have “Tea with Ms. D” at the end of the term to have a chat and reflect on your term. Unfortunately, that is not possible during this term. Instead, I would like you to complete the following reflection on your term:
Student Thoughts and Reflections
This is a mandatory assignment that will be part of your progress report for the term. Please complete by the end of the week (or sooner — sooner is better for this one :))
d.) Project for *you know who* *
During Office Hours and Sharing Circle last week, we talked about a secret project we have for *you know who*. Please refer to MS Teams “Assignments” to find out what I am talking about. This is due ASAP. Please ask me or a friend in the class if you are confused about what I am talking about.
e.) Math
Please continue your math program.
Khan Academy, IXL, worksheets, etc.
If you would like support/guidance on a math program, please contact me
Extensions (optional)
f.) Genius Hour (optional)
Continue your Genius Hour project. You may want to focus on your “weird animal” this week. This is an ongoing project. If you have completed it or are just starting, here is the planning sheet to start a new inquiry: Genius Hour Planning Sheet
Follow these steps:
Brainstorm – what topics interest you? Write down topics that interest you (e.g. birds, palm trees, global warming, Jupiter, etc…). Select one to focus on this week.
Question – What deep questions do you wish to explore on your topic? (e.g. how do birds fly?)
Research – How are you going to find answers to your questions? With limited variety of resources, it will likely be online or an interview with an “expert” on the topic (perhaps family/friends).
Present – How are you going to share your knowledge? Please come up with a a way to briefly present your project. This may be through a speech, slideshow, poster, poem, comic, video, song, etc.
Share – Practice your presentation and share — either to me, family/friends, to the class during Sharing Circle.
Please follow the following planning sheet to guide you through your planning and research.
Have a good day,
Ms. Daneshwand
I think it is in 1790 and they are doing ice fishing
I wonder why that lady is holding a plate.
I think 🤔 she is sharing food.
They look like First Nations trading I wonder what is in the tray .Also why is the lights blue?
I wounder what is on the plate.
Maybe they people are trying to survive in the Arctic.
Because the people are wearing coats and there is lots of snow.
I wonder what he person is handing out. Maybe there are handing out food for people. The reason I thought of that, is because it looks as it is the winter and people are cold and hungry.
Thank you
I think in that picture there is a person giving someone else. I wonder what they are giving. It looks like they are giving food to each other. I think that they are giving food because it is on a plate and the man looks like he is going to take some.
I wonder what they are eating?? Why are their houses different than our homes??? Maybe they are going to get some food and look at the stars. It looks really cold there.
I think they’re aboriginal because of their clothing, tents, their skin colour and their back ground. I wonder how they got the wood or where they got it from because I don’t see any trees.
I wonder what they are eating? Why are their homes different from our homes? I think they are going to have some food and look at stars. It looks very cold there.
i think these people are camping in the snow and one of them is giving another person some type of food .i think this because they have tents and a fire place because fire alone wouldn’t stay in the snow and because one is giving the other some type of rolls.🍔🍕🍖🍗🍚🍜🍝🍞🍟🍉🍉🎪🎪⛺⛺⛺
