Ms. Daneshwand – Div. 7

Wednesday

Posted on May 6, 2020

Good morning,

I hope you are all well. Did any of you notice the thunder/lightning last night? If you have a dog, I’m sure you noticed. My dog (and it seems many dogs) seem to be really afraid of thunder and lightning. My dog cries while wandering for a comforting place near one of us humans. I used to be very afraid of storms when I was in elementary school. But now, I watch in awe and really enjoy them. I think thunder and lightning would make very interesting genius hour project inquiries. Hmm… maybe I should do some research…

To discuss:

  1. Video Conference – today
  2. Learning Opportunities

1. Video Conference

Please meet me on Teams today at 11 am for Office Hours. During this time, we will do a quick check-in and discuss any questions/comments on the week’s work. This is an optional meeting.

2. Learning Opportunities

To-do:
* : hand-in
(extension): optional

a.) Morning Journal*
b.) Literacy – Mother’s Day*
c.) Math
d.) Reading

Extensions:
e.) Genius Hour (optional)
f.) Makers – Boat (optional)

a.)  Morning Journal

Today, I would like to try a “free write”. This means you can share any thoughts you may have. This can include:

  • something interesting you saw recently,
  • something you are curious about,
  • a story,
  • a wish,
  • a song or video,
  • a joke,
  • a poem
  • or anything else that is appropriate!

Please continue to keep your thoughts school-appropriate and organized. Looking forward to reading your free-writes!! 🙂

b.) Literacy – Mother’s Day

(Moms – please try your best to avoid viewing this document! 😀)
You may work at your own pace or follow my suggestions.

I suggest working on the edit/revising stage today.

As we have discussed, the “rules” in poetry are a little different than standard writing — particularly when you begin new paragraphs. I would still like you to review the spelling, grammar, punctuation and word choices while you review your work.

Please view this file: MOMS DONT LOOK – Mothers Day Template

If the file above does not open, try this file: PDF MOMS DONT LOOK – Mothers Day Template

c.) Math

Please continue your math program.
Khan Academy, IXL, worksheets, etc.

If you would like support/guidance on a math program, please contact me.

d.) Reading

Read for at least 20 mins.
If you would like to activate your thinking even more while you read, I suggest following one of these roles:

  • Connector: What does this part of the book remind you of? It can be connection to yourself, others, the world, or other text (books, movies, plays, stories, song, etc).
  • Sketch Artist: Visualize — draw what you read using clues from the reading.
  • Vocabulary Seeker: What words are interesting? What words are new to you? Find them in the dictionary.

Additionally, consider listening to an audiobook as well.

Try Audible (free online) or Libby (access local public library audiobooks). I am currently using and loving Libby!

Extension Activities (optional)

e.) Genius Hour (optional)

Continue your Genius Hour project from last week. If you have completed it or are just starting, here is the planning sheet to start a new inquiry:Genius Hour Planning Sheet

Follow these steps:
Brainstorm – what topics interest you? Write down topics that interest you (e.g. birds, palm trees, global warming, Jupiter, etc…). Select one to focus on this week.

Question – What deep questions do you wish to explore on your topic? (e.g. how do birds fly?)

Research – How are you going to find answers to your questions? With limited variety of resources, it will likely be online or an interview with an “expert” on the topic (perhaps family/friends).

Present – How are you going to share your knowledge? Please come up with a a way to briefly present your project. This may be through a speech, slideshow, poster, poem, comic, video, song, etc.

Share – Practice your presentation and share — either to me, family/friends, to the class during Sharing Circle.

Please follow the following planning sheet to guide you through your planning and  research.

f.) Makers – Boat (optional)

Please refer to the following document: Makers – Boat

This will also be available on Microsoft Teams.

Please take a picture with a description and send it to me or share it during sharing circle.

Have a good Tuesday,

Ms. Daneshwand

I have been watching part by part Avengers, Infinity war I think that this is the best movie ever when I finish the movie. My grandma got a new bubble machine taller, bigger, more bubble soap than the other bubble machine. When I was 6 or 7 I saw a light outside of the window and I was scared my dad said its going to be alright.

I was playing badminton with my brothers in our front yard one day and the cat* that lives across the street came out and climbed up a tree near our yard. Then we saw two raccoons cross the street beside ours. I think the cat noticed the raccoons and got scared so thats why it ran up the tree. 🐱🐈🌲🏸
*The cat is our neighbor’s friends cat.

Me and my brother couldn’t sleep because the drain pipe for our house is right outside our bedroom. Then after a while my brother fell asleep. I still couldn’t sleep because the rain was so loud I couldn’t hear the drain pipe anymore. I went into my parents’ room. I saw lightning and heard thunder. ☔⛈️⚡😐

On Monday me and my mom ordered a “Revenge Of The Fallen” megatron figure from the transformers studio series because she agreed to buy 1 toy every month so I chose the transformers series.I chose it because i already have 6 figures and they actually transform in to vehicles and the detail is awesome.

Our cat Baby is a ragdoll. Baby is furry. She does not play a lot now. Baby is a calm cat and she is as cute as a butterfly. And Pumpkin is a tabby. Pumpkin is as furry as soft blanket. Pumpkin is as playful as a rat running away. Her paws are cute and are cute just like Baby’s paws. Pumpkin likes Baby but Baby does not like Pumpkin as much. But they are cute like the sky. Baby plays with catnip and it looks cute and Pumpkin plays with a lot of things. Things like catnip and cat toys. A lot of cat toys. Pumpkin likes looking outside. Pumpkin and Baby goes on our beds. Pumpkin sleeps a lot like Baby. Baby and Pumpkin runs fast like the fastest cat. We all play with Pumpkin and we try to play with Baby but she does not play but we try. We play with Pumpkin a lot and more because she is a playful kitten.
