Good morning class,

Happy Monday! 🙂 Hope your weekend was nice. What a dramatic spring weather weekend — did you experience the rainstorm that rolled in yesterday?

To discuss:

  1. Class meeting – this morning
  2. Schedule for the Week

a.) Morning Journal*
b.) Literacy – Mother’s Day*
c.) Math
d.) Reading

Extensions:
e.) Genius Hour (optional)
f.) Makers – Boat (optional)

Priorities

a.) Morning Journal

How was your weekend? Focus on feelings, experiences, and observations (the “inside story”).

b.) Literacy – Mother’s Day

This week we will focus on our mothers.

Moms – please try your best to avoid viewing this document! 😀

You may work at your own pace or follow my suggestions.

I suggest working on the planning stage today.

Please view this file: MOMS DONT LOOK – Mothers Day Template

If the file above does not open, try this file: PDF MOMS DONT LOOK – Mothers Day Template

c.) Math

Please continue your math program.
Khan Academy, IXL, worksheets, etc.

If you would like support/guidance on a math program, please contact me.

d.) Reading

Read for at least 20 mins.
If you would like to activate your thinking even more while you read, I suggest following one of these roles:

  • Connector: What does this part of the book remind you of? It can be connection to yourself, others, the world, or other text (books, movies, plays, stories, song, etc).
  • Sketch Artist: Visualize — draw what you read using clues from the reading.
  • Vocabulary Seeker: What words are interesting? What words are new to you? Find them in the dictionary.

Additionally, consider listening to an audiobook as well.

Try Audible (free online) or Libby (access local public library audiobooks). I am currently using and loving Libby!

Extension Activities (optional)

e.) Genius Hour (optional)

Continue your Genius Hour project from last week. If you have completed it or are just starting, here is the planning sheet to start a new inquiry:Genius Hour Planning Sheet

Follow these steps:
Brainstorm – what topics interest you? Write down topics that interest you (e.g. birds, palm trees, global warming, Jupiter, etc…). Select one to focus on this week.

Question – What deep questions do you wish to explore on your topic? (e.g. how do birds fly?)

Research – How are you going to find answers to your questions? With limited variety of resources, it will likely be online or an interview with an “expert” on the topic (perhaps family/friends).

Present – How are you going to share your knowledge? Please come up with a a way to briefly present your project. This may be through a speech, slideshow, poster, poem, comic, video, song, etc.

Share – Practice your presentation and share — either to me, family/friends, to the class during Sharing Circle.

Please follow the following planning sheet to guide you through your planning and  research.

f.) Makers – Boat (optional)

Please refer to the following document: Makers – Boat

This will also be available on Microsoft Teams.

Please take a picture with a description and send it to me or share it during sharing circle.

See you at 11 am,

Ms. Daneshwand

I went to my grandma’s house on the weekend. It was fun until I have to do math with my dad. This time he finally let us do grade 3-4 math. My sister got all the hard questions and I have to do the easy questions. It was all fine until my dad checked all the works. My sister had errors and I somehow got the first 2 easiest questions wrong. The reason I got those question wrong was the first one I had to count the points and I didn’t match the middle correctly. My dad said “You need to practice counting 1-2-3. We will do the rest tomorrow.” Thank you.

On Saturday my mom, brother and I went to drop off a few things at my grandma and grandpa’s house. One of my brothers stayed home because he felt kinda sick. It started to rain while my mom was talking to my grandma and me and my brother weren’t wearing jackets so we kinda got wet. Then before we left my mom said that after we went to College College to pick up a craft kit we would go home. But she forgot we had to drop off something at our other grandma’s house. After we picked up the craft kit (we had to go at a certain time) we went to our grandma’s house to drop off toothpaste and something else. It was still raining and me and my brother got even more wet. We made up a game called hoodie boxing while we were still there. Then we went home.
Yesterday I had zoom chat with my cousin Teddy and saw his new pet cat. The cat’s name is Salem. After I played lots of videogames with my brothers. 🐱🎮

On Saturday I went On a walk with my sister Mila and my grandma. We brought our own snacks and me and Mila also brought our scooters. We all walked up a little hill and then we had our snack while coming down the hill. On Sunday it was my grandma’s birthday we ordered dinner for her and we had mango cake 🎂 it was really yummy 😋. I also played the piano and lots of DS games.

My weekend was doing math that I get help on. I play with our cat Pumpkin. Pumpkin is really playful. It’s cute to see Pumpkin play and run around. I pet Pumpkin and Baby. I feed them. I play with them. And I also feed the fish. Baby and Pumpkin gets cat food and Baby likes our human food. And a pumpkin does not eat our human food. Baby plays in catnip. Pumpkin plays with a lot like catnip, toys and paper. She makes holes in the paper. And I do what I want to do then when my mom and dad wakes up we do homework than we do something together.
