Office Hours

Posted on April 22, 2020April 22, 2020

Good morning Division 7,

Thank you for all the work you have been submitting to me. It is wonderful to view ๐Ÿ™‚

To discuss:

  1. Office Hours
  2. Sharing Circle page
  3. Learning Opportunities

1. Office Hours

We have Office Hours today at 11 am. Please meet on Microsoft Teams to join the call. (click the “Office Hours” post in blue and click join on the top right hand corner). Please be sure to get permission from a parent/guardian before joining the call. There were a few of you who joined the Monday Office Hours video chat. Office hours is a good time to bring any questions you have on assignments, technology or general thoughts/feelings you would like to share. It is optionalย but a nice opportunity to see some faces and feel more connected as a class.

2. Sharing Circle page

I have posted some of your Architecture Project photos and other work on the “Sharing Circle” page of the blog. There were a few of you who included your face in the photos (which is so nice to see!!!) but I cannot post on the blog (no faces). I will continue posting as projects come in. Nice job, Division 7!!

3. Learning Opportunities

To-do:
* :ย hand-in
(extension): optional

Priorities:
a.)ย Morning Journal *
b.) Reading
c.) Math โ€“ this can include Khan Academy or any math you are doing at home including games or worksheets โ€” Khan may not be suitable for everyone.
d.)ย Literacy *

Extensions:
e.) Makers โ€“ Bridge (optional)
f.) Mapping (math) (optional)

a.) Morning Journal

It looks like our Grizzly friends Coola and Grinder have come out of hibernation! Yesterday morning, the webcam in their den on Grouse Mountain showed them leaving their hibernation den. We were so lucky to have been able to see them in the fall!! (Thank you, Coco, for this news!)

For morning journal, please read the Grouse Mountain’s Ranger Blog (click) and take a peep at the Bear Den webcam (click).ย

If you were coming out of hibernation after 5 months, how do you think you would feel? What would be the first thing you would want to eat or do? What questions would you have?

b.) Reading

Read for at least 20 mins.

c.) Math

Khan Academy seems to be working for most of you. You may be working on a separate program at home which is more than OK. The list of remaining math topics we are to cover for the remainder of the term are located in the โ€œresourcesโ€ tab.

Alternative programs may include IXL, math worksheets, math games. Math is also everywhere โ€” you may decide your math program isย  to identify everyday math (measuring while baking, estimating while planning, noticing patterns, finding โ€œgroups ofโ€, etc.)

d.) Literacy*

Continue the โ€œAnd the Moral of the Story isโ€ฆโ€ assignment.
morals_1ย ( list of morals)
Fableย  (planning sheet)

I suggest you work on the editing/revising stage today.

  • Please edit/revise with a different colour pen than what you wrote with — this will allow you to notice what changes have been made.
  • Read your story aloud to someone in your home and ask them for questions and comments.
  • Check the structure of your story (when do I start a new paragraph?)

Extension Activities (optional)

e.) Makers โ€“ Bridge

Continue creating your stable bridge at your own pace. Todayโ€™s suggested step is to โ€œtestingโ€.

Please feel free to send me your work or share during Sharing Circle on Friday.

Makers Bridge

f.) Mapping (math)

Continue going through each bullet at your own pace. (view bullets fromย Monday’s blog)

g.) Body Break, Social Break, Service

Please remember to do these โ€“ they are a priority too but I am hoping everyone is already completing these without mentionย ๐Ÿ™‚

If I was a bear coming out of hibernation the first thing I would do it try to get up and walk because I would most likely feel very weak and cold.

If I were a bear coming out of hibernation, I would probably want to eat right away or stay inside my den for about an extra 10-25 minutes lying awake. ๐Ÿป๐Ÿป๐Ÿป

If I just woke up from hibernation, I would probably wake up at 6 A.M. Then I would run to the washroom and grab a book called “Lawn 1,2,3.” I would probably stay in the washroom for 15 to 20 minutes reading in the Washroom. After my washroom time, I would wake up my dad. He might get so mad at me for waking him up so early he might yell at me After that, I also would probably do a pose that would scare my mom. Then I would eat breakfast and then do my work online. Thank you.

If I was a bear I would eat fish and honey. Small bugs too that goes on me. I would go to the water and look for fish to eat. I would find berries to eat. I would look for good food and big food. If I can only find small food I would need to eat a lot.
I would feel hungry and feel like I am falling from the sky. I would be happy to be up from my cave and happy to see the sky after 5 months.
