Reading: Read: Read about your animal on the Epic Books website or read for twenty minutes with a family member of a book of your choice.

Tuesday

Literacy

Writing:

Write a name (child, family member, pet, friend, etc.) across a piece of paper. For each letter, find an item in your home that begins with that letter. For example,

S T A N L E Y – Spinach, Tea, Apple, Necklace, Larabar, Earring, Yves ground round

Alternatively, write a name vertically. Use each of the letters in a describing word or sentence about them to create a name poem. For example,

Silly
Adventurous
huMorous

Read: Read one of the books that Mr. Belliveau assigned to you on Epic Books or Read a book of your choice for 20 minutes
Weekly Class Meeting 11:00 on Zoom (Ms. Su will discuss our  next Force and Motion Challenges.)

Science: Force and Motion Challenge: See if you can solve Ms. Su’s question from our science discussion today.

Math

Ask your child to describe the members living in your house using fractions.

For examples,  ½ of the people are adults, or ¼ have four legs

Wedneday

Literacy

Writing: BE YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR

Our favourite books, characters or authors can inspire our stories! You might try writing a book the way your favourite author writes. Is it with speech bubbles, silly adventures or without words? Or possibly an information book. Or you might think of a favourite character from a book you have read or heard. Could you imagine that character in another story? What adventures might they have? Create a book that stars this character!

Reading: IN 20 WORDS OR LESS

After reading, ask your children to tell you, in 20 words or less, what was important.

Write down what they say or count the words.

How close to 20 did you get?

Math: Go to the Khan Academy website and try the questions I’ve assigned to you on this week.

 DPA: Heartbeat Excercise

This activity is designed to get your child up and moving and also begin to develop focusing skills needed for mindfulness. Ask your child to jump up and down or do jumping jacks for one-minute. After one-minute, have your child place their hand on their heart and focus on how their heartbeat and breathing feel.

Thursday

OPTIONAL CLASS MEETING ON ZOOM AT 11:00

Literacy: Create a commercial or advertisement to sell a product from a favourite story. For example: Pig’s brick house, a house made of gingerbread, a knight’s horse, Cinderella’s glass slipper. Include a picture and reasons why someone would want to buy it.

Reading:

While reading, encourage your children to visualize what they’re reading.

Ask them:

  • What do they see?
  • What details do they notice (colours, sounds, tastes, smells, textures)?

Keep a “picture journal” and draw pictures of the images they see in their mind.

Math: Go to Khan Academy or ABC ya math and try an activity of your choosing.  Or Choose five things at home to measure. What attributes could you measure – length, height, width, depth? Record your findings using pictures, numbers and words. Remember to include the “unit” you are measuring with. How long is two metres? How many centimetres are in two metres?

Friday

Reading:   Visit Ms. Su’s website and listen to this week’s Read Aloud. Or try the WWWWWH activity, carefully look at the pictures and writing on the cover of the book.  Help your child to ask a question about the book that begins with who, what, when, when, where or how.

Art: Show your creativity and upload a piece of art that you’ve done to our Teams website.  Do a guided drawing activity! Click here: Draw Everyday with JJK

Daily Physical Activity (DPA): How do you feel today? Make a list of activities that make you feel good. Choose one of those activities (keeping social distancing in mind), do the activity. How do you feel now? What activity might you do next time?

TWAH: Please don’t forget to submit a piece of work that you did this week that you feel proud of. It can be a picture or a piece of writing or some math or science that you did, or anything else that you learned about.  You can also upload an example of how you tried to tackle Ms. Su’s latest Force and Motion Challenge.
