Literacy

Writing: Look out your window and see if you can spot a living thing. Write or tell someone a few sentences about what you predict that living thing might be thinking or saying to itself.

Reading: Read for 15 minutes
Weekly Class Meeting 11:00 on Zoom (Ms. Su will discuss our Force and Motion Challenges.)

Science: Force and Motion Challenge: See if you can solve Ms. Su’s question from our science discussion today.

Math

Choose a number: 8, 18, 20, or 36 Find that quantity of items (rocks, seeds, books, blocks, toys, etc) What different ways can you decompose (break into parts) that quantity into equal groups (eg. 10 can be decomposed into 5 and 5 or 2 and 2 and 2 and 2 and 2) ? How will you show your thinking?

Writing: X Marks the Spot: Find a rock and draw an ‘X’ or a face onto it. Hide the rock either in your room, home or yard, then create and label a map of that space. Mark an ‘X’ where you have hidden the rock! Add enough detail so someone in your family could follow your map to the hidden rock!

  • Reading: Reading Everyday!
  • Read with your child daily. Books, magazines, newspapers, or websites create interesting reading experiences.
  • Encourage young readers to choose books or materials that are interesting to them.
  • Read aloud to your child and ask comprehension questions:
    • What are you picturing in your mind?
    • What are you wondering about?
    • What has happened so far? What have you learned so far?
    • What does the book remind you of?
    • Does this book remind you of another book?
    • How would you feel if this happened to you?

Math: Go to the Khan Academy website and try the questions I’ve assigned to you or try some different activities that look interesting to you!  Or go to ABC ya Math https://www.abcya.com/ and do some of the math activities on the website.  

DPA: Got to Go Noodle or Youtube and teach someone in your house how to dance to do the Water Cycle Dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM-59ljA4Bs

Writing

Expert: Is there something you can teach me about? Is it a sport, a story, a dance, a skill or a show you are an expert on? Create a book to teach me all about it!

Math: Go to Khan Academy or ABC ya math and try an activity of your choosing or try to do some questions about division.  Or try to figure out this problem:  An array is a quantity of items organized into rows and columns. Choose 12 items. What different ways can you organize them into arrays? Draw the arrays and label them with numbers.

Reading: Stick It! As they read, encourage your children to bookmark important ideas, events, characters, words, phrases with sticky notes.

Ask them about what they bookmarked and what makes it important to them?

TWAH: Please don’t forget to submit a piece of work that you did this week that you feel proud of. It can be a picture or a piece of writing or some math or science that you did, or anything else that you learned about.
