General Announcement

Preparing for Winter Break

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Adults of Division 3,

Please ensure you read all the way to the bottom.  I know it’s long but the message and information is important. 🙂

As we finish up Term 1 and get ready for Winter Break.  I wanted to let you know my process for preparing for Term 2.  All students need to bring a large (reusable) bag with them Friday December 18th to pack up all their things to take home over break.  This is to ensure the room gets properly cleaned over break, cubbies wiped down, desks cleaned etc. Additionally, this is so they can clear out their Term 1 work from their binders/duotangs and get prepared for a fresh slate for Term 2.

Please be advised they do not take their numbered plastic bins provided by me home 😉 .

I would also highly suggested evaluating your child’s organizational process with them, as well as their school supplies.  Many students in this class struggle with organization and could use some guidance from home as well as the guidance they are getting at school.

Some questions to consider:

  • Is their organizational system working for them?
  • Do they know where their work is when they need it?
  • Have they been handing work in on time?
  • Do they have school supplies they’ve run out of and need restocking?
  • Are there school supplies on the supply list they’ve never had? (scissors, ruler, French/English dictionary, regular dictionary, thesaurus, calculator etc.)
  • Are there school supplies they have but don’t need? (too many markers/felts, pencil crayons, crayons, too many pencil cases etc.)
  • Are there school supplies not on the supply list that might be helpful for them? (3 hole paper hole repair stickers is my main thought here)
  • Are there school supplies they have that are broken beyond use (pencil cases that no longer close and therefor constantly spill and waste your child’s time cleaning up)

Please be advised the subjects they cover in school are these.  Please check their duotangs, and dividers for the correct labels:

  2. Math/Numeracy

Please be advised Term 1 has been a much slower and gentler pace as we transitioned back to school after an unprecedented time away, as well as adjusted to new protocols and ways of doing things.

Term 2 will be much faster paced due to the timeline, and students will need to be more responsible with their assignments, note taking, and organization.

We have struggled with due dates and using our planners as individuals this term.  While we do not have a formal planner time in class, students should be using their planner throughout the day to help remember due dates, and plan their homework and study time.

I am very much looking forward to Term 2, and appreciate your support in getting them ready for the next phase in their academic careers.

Have a wonderful, relaxing and rejuvenating Winter Break as much as possible.  I hope your holiday season is filled with as much love and togetherness as safely possible.  I will miss the kiddos until January!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilson
