Dear Parents,

Today, after silent reading we started off with reading a few chapters from “Wonder” and we continued to analyze the characters by writing down character traits and backing it up with proof. After that, we did a quick individual practice of subtracting 4-digit numbers, which the students practiced and then we took up step-by-step. The students shared their strategies of figuring out the answers. Then, I talked about compensation and how this leads to creating simpler numbers to add. What we do to one number, we need to do to the second number in order to even out the numbers before we add or subtract them.

After that, students worked on:

Grade 4: pages 71-72  #1-7

Grade 5: pages 62-63 #1-8, 10, 12

Anything that is not done is homework. I have also pushed back the Math test to Tuesday, November 3rd to give the kids an extra day to work on studying for it.

After that, the kids went to Music and then we went outside for DPA.

When we came in, the students set up their displays/suitcases/shoeboxes for the Social Studies project and then we went to library. Ms. Z showed some cute videos of Lego stopmotion for Halloween – it was really cool!

After lunch, students read/worked on a Halloween word search and then we did a gallery walk where half the class walked around to look at others’ projects and the other half stayed to talk about their projects to visitors, then we switched. I was amazed at all of the hard work done on this project.

Then, we worked on our Daily 5 stations.

At the end of the day, we worked on our embroidery. It’s a hard task to teach the whole class, but a lot of fun 🙂

Reminder: The spelling test is tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
