We’ve got lumber!

It took some doing but we finally got our wood and nails delivered today. Mr. Potyka kindly helped me cut down our boards so we are raring to build on Monday! I think we’re good for hammers. But a couple extra saws and pliers could be beneficial. Thank you so much for your support in this project as we navigate these new waters.

Technical Difficulties

So I tried to pick up the plywood twice today, turns out even a massive mini van is too small to fit the 4×8 pieces . Any chance we know of someone with a pickup truck who can help us out? I’m also looking at delivery options but thought I would ask here too.

April 3

The CPF Concours Oratoire (French Speech competition) happened today.  We sent 3 students from Division 4 and I’ve heard that all 3 represented Sperling magnificently. I’m so proud of the work that was put into the speeches.  Public speaking is not an easy feat, let alone doing it in a second language, and everyone should feel proud of their personal accomplishments.

Gathering sponsors

The students have literally been pounding the pavement to gather materials for our project.  We were very fortunate to have a local builder allow us to help ourselves to their scrap heap.

Also, shout out to #8.  Looks like we might have our 4×8 boards to form the bases of our mazes!

A Blog about Blogging

As we enter into Term 3 students have started figuring out how to use their new blogs.  We have been playing with the technical side as well as discussing what makes a good blog (what form and style should be used). Most importantly we have been discussing why we are blogging and how we are using it as a form to track our individual learning and communicate that learning with myself and parents. Hopefully parents will enjoy watching the students’ experiences.

Students will be expected to blog two or three times a week; always due by Friday.  Students will more often receive prompts from me, tying their learning back to the expected competencies, but I also hope they will develop an ability to take charge of their own learning process and use this tool to independently analyze their own experiences.

Students are encouraged to use photo evidence but are reminded that any photos have to be resized so that they are no more than 640 x 480 pixels in size.  This can be done by uploading and editing images in “Media” before inserting them their blog.  Students may also insert videos, but again they must be compressed.

Happy blogging!
