Here is what the students are learning this term!

Language Arts – Reading – reading poems, short stories and articles; questioning

Writing – Poetry unit, essay writing, note taking and Words Their Way spelling program; continuing to use proper punctuation and grammar

Oral Language (speaking) – reading their poems, sharing opinions and answering questions orally, A/B partner share and Class Meeting

Math – decimals including tenths, hundredths and thousandths, ordering and comparing fractions, addition and subtraction of decimals to hundredths, relating decimals to money and measurement, how to tell time with analog and digital clocks, using 12- and 24-hour clocks perimeter of regular and irregular shapes, measurement (mm, cm, m, km), area measurement of squares and rectangles and relationships between area and perimeter

Science – Human Body Unit – basic structures and functions of body systems such as: digestive, musculo-skeletal, respiratory or circulatory systems

Social Studies – early contact, trade, cooperation and conflict between Indigenous and European peoples; fur trade; impact of colonization on Indigenous societies in BC and Canada

P.E. – dance and gymnastics

P.H.E. (Physical Health Education) – Healthy Living/Goals

Art – seasonal art activities using Elements of Design with a focus on texture

A.D.S.T. (Applied Design, Skills and Technology) – weaving, using materials, tools, and technologies in a safe manner, and with an awareness of the safety of others, in both physical and digital environments; identify the skills required for a task and develop those skills as needed

French – communities where French is spoken across Canada; a Francophone cultural festival or celebration in Canada (Quebec Winter Carnival)

Career Education – goal setting strategies; safety hazards and rules at school, at home, and in the community
