Let’s meet the orchestra!

Have you ever seen an orchestra performance before? Maybe this is your first time hearing the word “orchestra”, and that’s ok!

Here’s a short video that gives us a tour around all of the different instruments that are part of an orchestra. There are a lot of them, so see if you can remember the names of at least 2 of them! If you were already pretty familiar with the orchestra, were there any instruments that you didn’t know before watching the video?

Mr. Maroney, thank you for putting together this blog for us. I really enjoyed watching the orchestra play together. I wish I was George and got to meet all those musicians. And play some of there instruments. I really enjoyed it.

    • Mr. Maroney

Hi Gabriela, thanks for checking out these videos! I’m definitely jealous of George as well, what an awesome experience!

  3. Jonah, Division 8

I love how the kid was so interested in the orchestra and wanted to know the instruments and certain people in the orchestra.

    • Mr. Maroney

      Hi Jonah, I agree!

  4. Nickolas-Grade 5-Div 8

It will be cool to be the conductor imagine being the conductor it looks hard and I’m pretty sure it’s hard to learn the movements of the hands and the same for the other people like they have to learn what does like the movements are and then do it :0

    • Mr. Maroney

Yes, being a conductor is really hard! It definitely takes a lot of co-ordination, and especially when there are so many musicians watching him for direction. It just takes practice, though, and you’ll be able to experience that in Grade 7 when you join the school band!

  6. Jeyvion

Nice song but the world isn’t exactly perfect

    • Mr. Maroney

Hi Jeyvion, it’s great to hear from you! Yes, I agree with that, there are lots of ways that the world could be improved, especially during times like these. I think that’s one of the most important parts about Earth Day, that we get to celebrate what is great about the world, but also discuss some ways that we can make it better. Do you have any ideas? 🙂

That was a fun way to learn about the different instruments in an orchestra.

  11. Mackenzie Rae

I really like this video because when all the instruments play together they make beautiful sounds and songs. The category I liked the most was the percussion because there are instruments that I would like to play.

    • Mr. Maroney

      That’s great to hear!

My wish is that you give me advice for the Simply Piano app. Do you think it’s good to keep up my learning for fun since my piano lessons can not be done with my teacher?

    • Mr. Maroney

I haven’t spent a lot of time on the Simply Piano app, but it does seem like a great way to keep up with piano lessons, especially during a time like this. I always recommend having more ways of learning music rather than less, so definitely keep using that app if it’s helpful 🙂

Hi Mr. Maroney. I’m Camila from division 21. I saw many instruments but I think most about the cymbals and that tuba. Have a sing-y day!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Mr. Maroney

      Thanks Camila!

    • Wesley

Wesley – I remember xylophone and drums from the video. There is a lot of writing in the conductor book.

      • Mr. Maroney

Thanks Wesley! Yes, there’s definitely a lot of music that the conductor has to read!

  15. Ichiro Shibaoka - Div. 21

That was fun! I like George:)
I liked the conductor because I like how he controls the group. I wanted to play the flute cause you get to blow on it. What surprised me was the xylophones because we have those in Mr. Maroney’s classroom and I like playing with it. I didn’t know it was going to be in an orchestra!

    • Mr. Maroney

Thanks Ichiro! You’re right, the xylophones that we play at school are a lot like the ones in the orchestra!

  16. Avnika
