Word Synth

Here’s a really simple app that lets you combine words with notes! It works pretty similarly to the Song Maker app, so it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out if you’ve already used that one. There’s also a really short tutorial that explains everything that you need to know about it.

Word Synth

See if you can write a short 5-word sentence (maybe about something that you did today?), and use those words to create a melody on the app. That’s all you have to do for now, and once you’re done, take a screenshot of your melody. You can post that in the comments if you’d like to share it, but you don’t have to. Hang onto your melody because we’ll be doing another project with it shortly. Have fun!

“Happy Birthday” Challenge

Grade 5/6s, here’s a challenge:

Play around on the Song Maker website, until you have a pretty good feel for how it works.

See if you can recreate the melody of “Happy Birthday” on it. (Hint: it starts with a dark green note).

This might take a lot of trial-and-error, but it’s definitely possible!

Added challenge: try adding a drum pattern to it.

Are there any other songs that you can recreate? Post the results if you want to share!

Sound Waves

Think about what you know about sound waves (maybe you don’t know anything yet. That’s ok!)

What do you think is the difference in the sound wave between a high note and a low note? Make a hypothesis (a prediction) before moving on.

Click here  and play around with the keyboard.

Click the magnifying glass and see what you notice.

What happens when you hold down a piano key?

Intro to the recorder

Let’s learn some basics about the recorder!

-How to put it together

-How to hold the recorder (which hand goes where?)

-How to blow into the recorder properly

And most importantly, how to avoid having gross faces like that one down below…

Follow along if you’ve got a recorder at home!

Let Us Sing Together

This song a canon, or round, which means that it can be sung overtop of itself! Listen to where this version repeats, and for a challenge, see if you can add your own 3rd part by singing at a later starting point.

Johnny works with one hand

A great brain-break for kindergarteners.

See if you can keep the beat like Johnny does! Focus on keeping the beat nice and steady, and see if you can find something around your house that you could use as a hand-drum. Be creative about it!
