Measurement

We have been learning about measurement these past few weeks!  We began by putting objects in order according to their length. We made comparisons and used language such as “shorter than” and “the longest”.

We used non-standard units (e.g. Paper clips, erasers, unifix cubes, plastic teddy bear counters, etc.) to measure the length/width of different objects in our classroom. We measured a shoe, and even measured a student!  This student measured 60 snappy cubes tall.

We used balance scales to weigh some of our favorite objects. Students worked together in groups of 3-4. Students discovered that sometimes smaller objects can be heavier.

With the recent cold weather, we took the opportunity to talk about what a thermometre measures.  I showed them where 0°C was, and said that we jumped “down 6 steps” to -6°C this week.
