Executive Function Explained

Executive function refers to skills that help us focus, plan, prioritize, work toward goals, self-regulate behaviors and emotions, adapt to new and unexpected situations, and ultimately engage in abstract thinking and planning (https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/executive-function-in-children-why-it-matters-and-how-to-help-2020121621583).

Executive function is the ability to integrate present awareness with future anticipating and past experience to develop a reasonable plan (accounting for space, time and people) for present action (Sarah Ward, SLP).

Many children need help with executive functioning (EF). EF tools can be especially helpful for children with Autism, ADHD and some learning disabilities.
