Each week we learn a new sight word. We practice reading and spelling them during our Calendar Activities — we will spell the words by clapping, snapping or ‘spider-fingering’ each letter. Soon the children will begin to use these words in their Journals and written work.
This week’s word is: see
If the word was ‘see’ we would chant:
s e e spells see!
s e e spells see!
As we say each letter, we clap, snap or spider! Ask your son or daughter to show you how to spell this week’s word(s)!

If you’d like to help your child at home:
- Make a set of blank cards that are about 2″x5″ and write our word of the week (WOW) on a card each Monday. Then practice the word with your child daily (for about 1 minute)
- Take another minute and review the previous WOW words.
- A few times a week, ask your child to help you make sentences with these words — have fun with this!! Make a nonsense sentence, read it aloud with your child and ask them if it makes sense (for example: Like we see I bears). Giggle over the mistake. This allows your child to see that it’s OK to make mistakes! Next, make a sentence that works (for example: I see a bear.)
- Ask them to read the finished sentence back to you.
- Tell them how proud you are!!
Thank you for helping us enter the world of literacy!
