Nature Crafts, Potatoes, Butterflies and Chicken Eggs!

Nature Crafts- Many of the students have already had their turn writing in the Adventures of Luna Journal and have completed the assigned task of creating a Nature Craft!  Check out some of these wonderful creations!

Spuds in Tubs- Our potatoes are growing well and we have now moved them outside where they have already started growing more leaves and getting taller and bushier. The students are watering them and can’t wait until we get to harvest and then eat the potatoes later in June!

Butterflies– Our caterpillars attached themselves to the top of the butterfly habitat, where it then splits its skin revealing the chrysalis underneath. This hardens and then the caterpillar’s body begins to turn into a butterfly inside. Our butterflies are called Painted Lady Butterflies. We now have 5 that have emerged!  One of the photos shows a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. They have beautiful wings when they are opened up!

Hatching ChickensWe have placed 48 chicken eggs into our incubator and we will care for the eggs over the next 21 days, hoping many of the eggs will hatch!  We will learn about what happens inside the egg as the chick develops over the next 21 days.

The Farmer- The farmer who donates the eggs to our classroom each year, has a small farm in Maple Ridge with some goats, llamas, dogs and of course, chickens!  My son and I went to pick up the eggs last weekend and here are some photos of the animals on her farm! The eggs that we have received are from many of the chickens you see in the photos.
