Freddie the Frog and the Secret of Crater Island

Good afternoon students! I have created another read aloud story for you to enjoy, and another staff lesson that includes the use of ledger lines. If you are one of the students that downloaded and handed in all the sheets from the previous staff lesson, you will have already had a glimpse of labelling notes that are outside of the staff. Here’s what I would like to you to do for this assignment:

  1. Watch the link provided below called “Crater Island Staff Lesson”. You must watch this video to get some clues as to what I am asking you to search for in the read aloud.
  2. Watch the read aloud video below of “The Secret of Crater Island”, and see if you van find the three BRAND NEW NOTES that are labelled in the book.
  3. Once you’ve found the three BRAND NEW NOTES (I’ll give you a hint; they are OUTSIDE the staff) draw me a staff (including the five lines and the treble clef) with the three new notes shown and labelled and decorated (just like you have been doing for the previous two videos).
  4. Enjoy yourself this long weekend!!!

Skye Boat Song

Hi students! A couple of weeks back I interviewed my Dad about his recorder collection – if you haven’t watched the interview already, you should! It’s here on my blog. While he was sampling the different recorders he played a song called the “Skye Boat Song”, and I mentioned that I would post the music for my recorder students. I also made a video of myself singing and playing the song.  I had a little fun trying out a new app called “Acapella”. The link to the video is below the picture!

I recorded this in my study at home,  no microphone or editing done so it’s a bit rough, but I thought it would be fun to share with you and encourage you to try! The words to the song appear in the bottom of the screen as I sing it. I have also made a Muse Score file with the notes for recorder, the words for singing, and the chords for playing Ukulele (or guitar). The blue/green words are link to a PDF, and I’ve included a screenshot below.

Skye Boat Song

Welcome message, and new song to learn for primaries!

Chorus:

Run Salmon, Run (run salmon)

Run Salmon, Run (run salmon)

Run Salmon, Run

Grow egg, grow

As the currents flow

In a gravel nest you grow

Grow egg, grow

Hidden down below

In a freshwater home you grow

Chorus

Drift by drift

In a stream so swift

Bigger every day you drift

Drift by drift

As the water shifts

In the river home you drift

Chorus

Bridge:

Run Salmon, run

Your story is a circle

Beneath the moon and sun across the whole world (X2)

Chorus

Swim fish, swim

A flash of silver skin

Returning to your home you swim

Swim fish swim

A splash of tail and fin

Your story ends another begins

Chorus
