Our Awesome Box Projects!

It was a lot of fun today in Division 8 as we began to “Think Outside the Box” and create our Box Projects!

Yesterday, we read two books, “Not A Box” by Antoinette Portis and “Not a Box” by Jane Yolen and Chris Sheban. These books sparked our imaginations and got us thinking and planning what we could do with our own boxes.

Today we unleashed our creativity and got to work. We can’t wait to see what the end result will be in the next few days!
Through this activity, we are learning to plan our projects, practice growth mindset skills that we have learned about (I can try new things, I can persevere, I can modify/change my plan if something isn’t working quite right) and reflect on our experience.

Remembrance Day Poem

This week our class collaborated to write this incredible acrostic poem!  The children then presented it to the school at our Remembrance Day Assembly.  I was so proud of the work they did both in the classroom to create this piece and the mature way they were able to present this to the entire Stoney Creek Community!  Way to go Division 8!

Science -Matter Experiments

Our class has been learning about different states of matter and how matter can change either physically or chemically.  We have been doing a variety of experiments in class to demonstrate how these changes happen in real life.

Here we are experimenting with liquids and making them race!.  We were experimenting to see if each liquid is the same or whether the thickness or texture would affect how the liquid moves.  We came to the conclusion that clearer, lighter liquids like water move and change shape more quickly than thicker liquids like syrup or ketchup.

Here we are mixing solids and liquids to create a  gas and to create a chemical reaction.  When we mixed the baking soda and the vinegar it created a gas and filled the balloon with air!  The children were excited to see this chemical change right before their eyes!
