Bonjour les familles de la Division 9!

For Literacy work this week, we practiced reading comprehension with Les journaux de lecture. Building off of work from Grade 2, students were asked to write characters, setting, problem and solution to books read in class or at home.  Students have one more reading log to complete at home this weekend. I have allowed students to take home one book at a time from our class library. As they return the books, they will be allowed to take more. Please ensure the books are returned so we can continue to have a variety of materials to read!

Our sounds of the week were the sound “eu” and “eur”. We will have our dictée on Monday with the words:

  • une fleur
  • des feutres
  • heureux
  • une queue
  • un pêcheur
  • les cheveux
  • la peuple
  • une pieuvre
  • il pleut
  • il/elle peut
  • il/elle pleure
  • un jeu
  • vieux
  • l’heure
  • deux
  • neuf

In Math, we worked on some estimation skills by looking at groups of 10 and 100, and then 1000. We are looking at the book Great Estimations to help us train our eyes and brains to estimate large quantities. We also worked on comparing Canadian coins to Base 10 Blocks, to build on our number sense. We used skip counting and/or addition to determine amounts represented by coins, and then Base 10 Blocks to show the number. Est-ce vivant ou pas? | Parlons sciences

In Science, we learned the definition for a living organism. We categorized pictures of a variety of objects into “living” and “non-living” categories, made our own lists of living and non-living things, went outside to look for living things and then compared similarities and differences of those living organisms to ourselves.

We met with our buddies today! We had a special dance performance from two classmates celebrating Navratri. Then we were partnered with our little buddies. We did an activity with Venn diagrams to show what each student likes, and what we have in common with our little buddies. I think everyone had fun!

Please note that tomorrow is a provincial Professional Development Day and there will be no school for students.

I hope you have a lovely long weekend. I am looking forward to another fun week of learning next week!
