Weekly Assignments – June 15-19

It is our last full week of school! Can you believe it?

Weekly Assignments Chart – June 15-19

IMPORTANT! If you did not complete it last week, please complete the self-assessment for core competencies for Responsibility 11.1 on Teams. Select two core competencies to reflect on, and write about the activities from the year that show your growth in those competencies. Please aim to complete this by Wednesday.

4 Ways to Measure Growth Rate of Plants - wikiHowBefore working on your math assignments for the week, check out the videos in the post “Measure with the Metric System” in the “How To…” category of this site. For Math 11.3, find a ruler and measure your sunflower sprouts or another plant near your home in centimeters, to the nearest tenth (which would be the millimetres).

Measure with the Metric System

Since we are being told so often to maintain 2 metres of distance from people in public, I thought we could use non-standard measurement to see what that really looks like. Check out the fun posters below. I especially like the posters from the Yukon territory, and their creative ways of measuring 2 metres!Social Distancing at Capilano River Regional Park : vancouverhikingBlog Borg Collective: "Do your part. Stay 2 metres apart ...How Yukon's 'one caribou apart' physical distancing campaign ...Canada's Yukon asks residents to stay one caribou – or four ravens ...Health and Social Services - Yukon (@HSSYukon) | TwitterFrom bears to beers to alligators, states are using creative ways ...Pin on Tongue In CheekOr, if you are from Alabama…. Or perhaps Manitoba…

Social distancing, Manitoba style.Let's keep beluga whales, garter snakes, fatboy burgers and perogies in mind as we distance ourselves from others and most importantly, stay home. | #ExploreMB

What would your personal social distancing poster look like? What do you think British Columbia’s poster should include? Try making the poster for Math 11.4 and Art 11.4!

Here are two example made by Ms. Anderson and Brora:

Front Desk | Anti-Defamation LeagueLiteracy 11.1 and 11.2: Listen to the last chapters of Front Desk! For Art 11.5, design an alternative cover for Front Desk. If you were the illustrator, what would you have included on the front cover?

Front Desk Chapters

Literacy 11.3: What are your impressions of Front Desk? Even if you have not finished the book, tell me what you think of it. If you were to give this book a critical review for the cover what would you say? Answer the questions in the post on Teams.

Literacy 11.4: In Chapter 48, Mia’s narration tells us that she worked on the letter all night, correcting tone, punctuation, and syntax (word order to make sentences). Print or copy out the sentences in the worksheet on Teams and choose the correct conjugation of the verbs for each sentence. Before you do that, however, watch this video for an overview on subject-verb agreement:

I loved learning about your heroes through your nominations from last week! Check out all of the nominations on the post! Thanks to all who shared! If you missed this last week, you are welcome to submit a late nomination through the Responsibility 10.1 – HOTW Nomination assignment on Teams.

Social Studies 11.3: This Sunday, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day (as well as lining up with Father’s Day this year)! It was renamed from National Aboriginal Day in 2017, but has been celebrated on the summer solstice since a proclamation from the Governor General of Canada in 1996. Watch this video below to learn about the day, and to see some of the celebrations that have happened at Trout Lake in Vancouver in past years:

Social Studies 11.4: It is important that we learn about local history that is not as commonly known. The more we learn, the more we can appreciate about the people who came before us and how they impacted our world today. Watch this video to learn about Vancouver’s historic neighbourhood, Hogan’s Alley.

Afterwards, for Social Studies 11.5, explore this website: http://blackstrathcona.com/ .  Choose one video (aside from the Hogan’s Alley video) to watch or page to read.  Tell Ms. Anderson what you learned in your own words through the assignment on Teams.

Proud Saved By The Bell GIFResponsibility 11.2: What are you proud of accomplishing this year?

What do you love about your classmates? What is one positive adjective for each person? Fill out the form on Teams to list the qualities you love about our class!

Reminder: we will have a class meeting today (Monday) at 11:00 am to go over the assignments for the week. Join our Wednesday class meeting for a “digital Sports Day” of games with our class and a farewell to Mr. LaPlante!

Thanks for being awesome, Division 2! Keep working hard for this last full week of school!
