February 24-27

Another short but jam-packed week!

We were very fortunate to have not one but two guest presenters this Tuesday!  Eric Walters spoke to the intermediate classes about his books, story research and charitable activities.  He was an engaging presenter.  That afternoon, we welcomed stream keepers into our classroom to teach about our local watershed, the importance of protecting streams, and the significant impacts that humans can have on aquatic life.  We learned that all drains lead to fish habitat, so be careful what goes down the drain!  No harsh chemicals, like bleach, should ever be used down toilets or sinks, as they will eventually end up in streams like Byrne Creek!  Stream of Dreams is an initiative (started right here in the Byrne Creek watershed!) to educate students and communities, by presenting to classes and installing painted wooden fish as murals on school fences.  I am so excited to see Glenwood’s new mural!  Thank you to all the parent volunteers, and talented student artists who made it happen.

We had our Kindness assembly for Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday.  The presentations and performances were encouraging, and the assembly ended with an enthusiastic dance/singing/drumming of “Shake it Off” (which will now be stuck in my head for a week!).  Lots of smiles and fun dance moves!

Lit Circles are beginning to finish up, and students were introduced to the final project choices on Monday.  Before that, they worked on their weekly roles and discussion groups, and I was very impressed with the focus I saw and great dialogue I overheard while circulating.  Keep up the good work, Division 2!

Designs for ADST projects of Rube Goldberg machines are looking excellent, as students work through the ideation stage of design.  The class was asked to research each of the simple machines with books from the library to use as classroom posters.

In Math, we are working on fluency of division facts.  Many students chose to do the Multiplication Re-test, and many improved their grades in doing so.

Because the class worked hard to earn 500 class points, they earned a movie party for Thursday afternoon.  Keep up your excellent efforts in recent days, Division 2!  Let’s see this kindness, respect, and focus continue.

No school for students tomorrow, due to a district professional development.  Enjoy your weekend!
