First visit to Beecher Creek!

We took advantage of a gorgeous late Autumn day this past week, and we headed off to Beecher Creek. We joyfully made the short walk to this magical outdoor space singing and noticing all of the seasonal changes that were occurring as Autumn transitions into Winter.

Once we came upon the fairy door between the cedar trees, Ms Allanson stopped everyone and shared the story of this magical way to get to Beecher Creek. We were so lucky the door was open for us on this day!
Ms Allanson jumped through the door first and made sure it was safe for all the students to join her. The students waited quietly listening for Ms Allanson’s signal that it was safe to jump through the door.

“Yoodle-yoodle-lay-hee-hoo!”

The students hear the signal and begin to jump through one at a time. So much laughter rang through the air as we completed this important step on the short journey to Beecher Creek.

We made our way to the creek and the first thing we were lucky to see was Autumn in action! We settled under a large maple tree and took a moment to watch the leaves softly falling like a gentle snowfall.

But the creek was calling us and so was the downhill path we needed to take. Off the students went, speeding down the hill, gravity making the task much easier! Some of us were surprised by a slippery muddy patch, but we didn’t slow down till we reached the bottom!

Once we crossed a small bridge we finally arrived at the creek. We followed the creek westward along a second path until we came upon an open space filled with cedar trees and other nature marvels. While exploring this area, the students uncovered what we think might be more fairy doors!

Before we knew it, it was time to go back to school for lunch. We will return soon with our magnifying glasses and nature journals to investigate this special place more closely. I wonder, what will we discover about our theory that the cedar trees have fairy doors in them? What other magic will we uncover when we look closely?

Stay Tuned!

Love,

Ms Allanson
