Happy Lunar New Years, Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Family Day!

I hope that you are all well and healthy.   One of the many activities that we do in our ELL classes is read a story together, stopping often to talk about what’s happening in the story and to share our thinking.

Reading together and talking while we read helps students with their speaking and listening skills.   We also stop and talk about the meaning of new words that we come across.  Writing about what we read helps students to practice their writing skills and to integrate their learning.

You can support your children’s literacy skills by reading together, stopping often to talk about the story or text.  After, students can draw pictures and write about what they have read.  Speaking, listening, reading and writing:  these are important skills that develop with practice!
