Dear Parents,

Happy last Monday before Spring break!

Today, we started off with talking about having a Growth Mindset. I made a chart on the board about replacement thoughts in order to promote growth and optimism instead of negative thinking.

I have included my chart above on Growth Mindset. Encouraging these replacement thoughts helps kids with their outlook and perspective on tasks that they do not necessarily like very much.

After, students worked on addition and subtraction of decimals in their textbooks. I didn’t review this today since the last number of lessons have been very similar in content.

The homework if not done:

Grade 5: pages 214-215 #1, 4-7, 12

pages 216-217 #8-15, 18

Grade 4: pages 214-215 #1-6, 8, 9

pages 216-217 #9-14

After, students had snack and we went outside for DPA.

When we came back in, students wrote the Moon Phases & Tides Quiz. Most students did quite well, which was great.

After, students worked on their rugs and then I gave the kids an extra free time for good behaviour, especially on Friday.

After lunch, we continued to work on planning and writing a rough copy for our two connections that we made to which character is the most like each student from the literature circles books they are currently reading. If not done their planner/organizer sheet, this part (only) is for homework.

After recess, we did some Dance which included learning dances that combine fundamental movement skills for the songs: Fight Song, Macarena, Happy, and we practiced the Cha Cha Slide again. All students did wonderfully!

Tomorrow is Literature Circle Meeting #3, so students are expected to have read their assigned pages and done their assigned written role before class tomorrow and be ready to discuss in the morning.

Students are also reminded to try to look at the moon – eventually we will see it 🙂

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
