Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday!

Today, we started off with our spelling test. I will be posting these on FG asap. Then, we did our Literature Circle Meeting #1. I was very happy to see that pretty much the whole class was ready for our very first meeting. There will not be class time before Meeting #2 – I told the kids today that they have to work on this during quiet times/reading times or on the weekend at home as they have lots of time before Meeting #2 on Tuesday.

Then, we went over our stars and wishes from today – aka what we did well in our meeting and what we wish our peers and ourselves could improve on for the next meeting to invoke more discussion.

After, we had snack and went outside for DPA. Then, Ms. Parke came and took the kids on a walk and then they did a word search on different muscle names. After, Grade 4’s had time on the computers to work on their Explorers project and the Grade 5’s and I worked on their family tree, and then we reviewed le, la, l’, les in French and un/une as well as feminine and masculine words. Then, we watched a video on the names of French family members and French fruits. Students were given index cards to make flashcards to memorize fruit names with their corresponding French words for those fruits.

Following lunch, we had community time. Students wrote down the Weekend Journal: “What is something you want to learn to do? How will you achieve this and why do you want to learn it?” It is 1.5 pages for Grade 5’s and 1 page for Grade 4’s with indented and organized paragraphs due on Monday. Tomorrow is a PRO-D Day, so no school.

It is Mr. D’s birthday tomorrow, so we surprised him by calling him to the room and yelling surprise and gave him a card from our class 🙂 It was so much fun!

At the very end of the day, we had Ms. Peddie’s lesson where we worked on summary writing structures in order to help the students with their Literature Circle Roles and to improve their writing organization.

Have a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
