Dear Parents,

We had such a fun day of learning today! We started off the day with finishing our quote contest with the library where students had to match quotes that teachers picked with the books that they belong to. After that, the students came in and in groups worked on using books in our classroom on planets to write down important information to add to their planet’s profile. We will be making a hanging solar system to hang from our classroom ceiling with the information that the students wrote down and coloured.

After snack and DPA, the students had Music.

After lunch, students exchanged their books (no library tomorrow because of the field trip) and finish their scavenger hunt to match quotes to the teachers who picked them. Then, students worked on creating papier maché models of their designated planets in groups. We are leaving them to dry for two days and then we will be painting them on Thursday. It is very exciting to be making the planets as a way to cultivate our learning of the sizes of the planets and the colours that they are as well in our model.

At the end of the day, I presented information on revolution of the Earth vs. rotation and we talked about how the day cycles are created, why we have a leap year once every 4 years, and how the yearly cycle and seasons are determined. Students filled in a fill in the blank to follow along with the information. Then, students were able to work on their advertisements.

We also went over Science World and bus rules for our trip tomorrow and talked about how students need to be here in the classroom for 8:45. We will be leaving as quickly as we can and will not be waiting for late students to arrive. Late students are to report to the office to figure out what they will be doing for the day – likely joining another intermediate class. Students are not allowed to bring money or cell phones. Thank you to the parent volunteers who are coming tomorrow 🙂 I’m looking forward to our field trip!

Still looking for each kid to bring a labeled grocery bag with their name by Thursday for our desk clean up and we have a spelling quiz on Thursday as well in the morning!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
