Dear Parents,
Today, we continued to work on long division – we will be practicing it for the rest of the week as well. Students seem to be getting the hang of it, but are still a bit confused when it comes to long division with decimals. I have a Math game I found that will help them with long division (so they feel they can complete it on their own) but unfortunately, there aren’t decimal answers. It still gets them into a good routine of completing these calculations: https://www.free-training-tutorial.com/long-division/snorks/snorks.html The worksheet is due tomorrow if not done.
Then, we had library before lunch where Ms. Zimmerschied read a book about Growth Mindset (believing you can do it through practice)!
After lunch, we played benchball in Gym, practiced our overhead throws in basketball, and played “Bump” – a basketball game that the kids really seem to enjoy playing at recess. Then, we did our Daily 5 literacy activities.
At the end of the day, I read the book, “If Everyone Did” and asked the students to think about their impact on others. For example, it does not seem like a big deal if one person uses a plastic straw, but if everybody used one, it would be quite a lot of waste! The book has funny scenarios, but ultimately teaches students the impact of one action. Then, Ms. Belcourt came in and continued to talk about expected vs. unexpected behaviour.
Tomorrow, we have our spelling test and the turtle island comic (fully coloured) is due.
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
