Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful day today of learning! However, there was an incident at lunch recess that was quite serious. There were students involved in a “war game” throwing pinecones, ice, rocks, and other objects at each other. We had a class meeting about empathy and putting ourselves in other people’s shoes and identifying how others would feel. We also imagined how terrible the world would be without empathy and if everyone just thought about themselves. People were injured during the throwing of items, so we talked about what to do if this is happening and how to not retaliate and tell the supervisor outside. The students involved went to the office at recess to talk about this incident.

In the morning, we read some more of “Castle in the Attic” and then we worked on our Math Lesson. We did Lesson 8 which was showing the relationship between multiplication and division, which is mostly a review from the other lessons we have learned recently. The homework is pages 108-109 #1-9 due tomorrow and the unit math test is going to be next Tuesday, December 3rd.

We also looked at creating Winter rhyming poems. The one we came up with in class was:

Winter

By: Division 9

Winter has a lot of snow,

they will fall, they will blow.

After Winter, some day the snow will melt,

for the snowman’s hat and scarf, we use some felt.

Now the temperature is cold and low,

snow will come and it will go.

Then, they created their own Winter rhyming poems and we had a little contest with it.

At the end of the day, we worked on our medieval buildings some more and many students painted their buildings.

We are still accepting canned food donations!! 🙂
