Dear Parents,

Today, the students had Music in the morning. After music, we went outiside for DPA and had snack. In Math, we continued our work with arrays. I had the students fill out a Fact Families sheet demonstrating the relationship between division and multiplication. I had them roll dice e.g. 6 + 2 = 8 (Roll 1), and 5 + 5 = 10 (Roll 2), then I had them multiply Roll 1 x Roll 2 = 8 x 10 = 80, then they had to write 2 multiplication facts (8 x 10 = 80 and 10 x 8 = 80) and 2 division facts (80 / 8 = 10 and 80/10 = 8) to show all of the equations that represent those three numbers. The pages for homework are pages 105-106 #1-8.

The students started working today on creating their props to act out their Medieval Scripts for Drama that they wrote in groups.

After lunch, we learned about similes and metaphors and got our new spelling words.

Similes are comparisons made between two things that helps to describe something with exaggeration by using the words “like” or “as”. e.g. He is as tall as Mount Everest! (it depicts with an exaggerated tone that the boy is tall, but not literally as tall as Mount Everest). Metaphors are comparisons made that exaggerate or are not meant to be taken literally without using the words “like” or “as”. – From Katy Perry’s song “Firework”: “Baby, you’re a firework!” – she doesn’t mean that the person is an actual firework, just that they are vibrant, exciting, and interesting! We also got new spelling words – I will post them on Fresh Grade – they are a mix of the end of our medieval words and a few new biome words! The spelling test is on Thursday, December 5th.

After recess, we worked on our Catan game and took 2 turns each. Some teams are very close to winning! Then, the students did a reading about the Aquatic Biome – this is for homework if they are not done.

We are collecting donations for our Canned Food Drive! Please bring in canned foods for the Food Bank – anything helps 🙂

We also have Young People’s Concert tomorrow at 10:15 – we will be going on the buses and come back at lunch time!
