Dear Parents,
Today, we started off with myself reading more of “James and the Giant Peach” to the students. Then, we started talking a bit about Energy. We watched some videos/I went through some information on Heat Energy and Light Energy. We talked about topics such as friction, molecule movement, convection, conduction, radiation, opaque, translucent, transparent, reflection an refraction. Students filled in the blanks for these lessons. Then, we had snack and recess.
Following recess, we made Oobleck/Gooble which is a partial solid, partial liquid substance. It’s pretty neat – when hard force is applied to it, it has solid properties and when gentle force is applied, it has some liquid properties. Students in groups were given tasks to test the substance and record whether it acted as a liquid or solid. Then, I did a buoyancy experiment with a carbonated drink and raisins. We discussed density in relation to buoyancy and observed the bubbles and water force push against the weight/density of the raisins. It was neat to see!
Following lunch, students had time to work on their Book Creator Stories, and then we played some cooperative games outside.
Reminder: Literature Circle #9 due tomorrow and Literature Circle #10 (last one) due Thursday.
Class Picnic = Thursday, June 23rd (more information in previous blog post and by email).
Have a good night!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
