Dear Parents,

Today, we started off with the students’ extra DPA time that they earned yesterday. They had a choice of activities inside of the classroom since it was raining outside. Then, we started our new Math Unit. We discussed parts of bar graphs and pictographs and made one of each. We talked about titles, x-axis and y-axis (+ labels for each of these), scale, range, key (legend), and using a ruler. We are going to be practicing making and interpreting graphs in this unit.

After, students had Music, recess, and then snack. Following snack, they had time to work on their stop motions. Students will have one more work class until it is time to watch all of the stop motions. They are looking great!

Following lunch, we had our first literature circle meeting. I stamped students’ work for completion if they finished their work on time. They were supposed to be prepared for Literature Circle #1 today by finishing their work before today. They were also given class time to work on this. Students were then given time after their meeting was finished to start reading/preparing for our next Literature Circle.

Our next Literature Circle is on Tuesday, May 17th. Students need to do their reading and finish their role before Tuesday for our next meeting.

Then, we went over some facts and information about various European explorers.

Students also have their Student-led Portfolios in their backpacks and are to present tonight and return the sheet with your feedback tomorrow or as soon as possible.
