Dear Parents,

Today, we started off with doing some more long division practice and then we did an introduction to decimals. We talked about writing decimals as 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 1.0, etc. and why it is written like that by using a place value chart to show tenths, ones, etc.. We also talked about how it can be written in words: one-tenth, two-tenths, three-tenths, etc. I used a picture to model this and we also talked about how fractions and decimals are related. Students were assigned Unit 5 Lesson 9 #1-8 (all questions) and this is homework if not finished already in class.

Then, we had snack and recess. After recess, students had their last class to work on their optical illusion art before it is due on Friday. After, Ms. Varley came in and planted sunflowers with the students.

After lunch, students worked on creating their main character and one supporting character for their upcoming stories. Then, we shared our characters and students asked each other questions about their characters. After, they discussed in partners in order to elaborate on their character’s personality and backstory.

Then, we had DPA and at the end of the day, students worked on two pages of their Science booklets from yesterday. In pairs, they looked up what characteristics living things have and looked into the mechanics of the five senses. Homework if not done in class today.

We had a discussion about appropriate behavior during DPA when playing soccer as well as unfortunately, there were some issues around this.

Some students also got to use the microscope today 🙂

Have a good night!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
