Dear Parents,

Today, we started off a bit differently. To give the students a break from Math Textbook work, we instead learned how to do Sudoku. Students who already knew how to do this completed 9-square puzzles while I taught beginner students how to complete 6-square puzzles. We talked about the benefits of doing puzzles to challenge ourselves and our brains and to inspire perseverance and patience in our work. We also discussed neuroplasticity later in the day and why this is important.

Then, students went to Music and then had recess. Students then came in and had snack and we tried to solve the Wordle of the day as a different kind of brain puzzle. After, students were given a new ADST project – a stop-motion project. Stop motion is using a collection of pictures in order to make objects look like they are moving to tell a story or show a scene in video form. The students had to create a plan today in groups of 3 to decide on their topic, plan what materials, items, and characters to create and gather, and had to divide the work evenly. We talked about how students will be assessed on their contribution to the team in the form of teamwork, completing a full stop-motion project, and creativity put into their project. Students saw some examples from Youtube and from last year’s class.

After lunch, we did our Daily 5 stations, then had DPA, and library.

Reminder: Optical Illusion Art is due tomorrow, Moon Quiz on Tuesday, and Spelling Test on Thursday.
