Dear Parents,
Today, we started off with our Math Minute and then we delved into talking about Lessons 8 & 9 of Area for Unit 4: Measurement. In these two combined lessons, we talked about the difference between square units and centimetres squared (cm²). We talked about how one cm² is a square that is 1 cm by 1 cm and how square units can be squares of any size that a shape takes up. Students can either count square units or use basic multiplication to avoid this long process of counting one by one. For square centimetres (cm²), students multiply the length by the width. The length is the long side and the width is the short side. They multiply to find the answer in cm².
Students worked on pages 151-152 #1-5, 7 and page 155 #3-6 and this is due tomorrow if not finished in class.
After, we had snack and recess.
Following recess, we worked on starting the introduction to our Social Studies Indigenous stories. Students had to introduce their main characters and setting with descriptive words in their introduction. They may also choose to hint at the main problem there is to come. The introduction is due tomorrow if not finished today.
Then, Scott came in and did a lesson.
After lunch, students had time to work on unfinished homework while I did reading assessments.
Then, we did planners, had a short DPA inside, and students went to Music.
Have a good night!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
